Write-up by Samulea Christoper

This past Sunday was an incredible display of teamwork, dedication, and compassion. Thanks to the hard work of 15 amazing youth and adult volunteers from RTPTCA, we successfully prepared and distributed 100 chicken burgers to community members in need.
Here is a look at how the afternoon unfolded:
🍔 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM | Preparation at Zakat Foundation Center
5110 Revere Road, Durham
Preparing 100 fresh meals on a tight schedule is no small feat, but the RTPTCA team tackled the kitchen with incredible efficiency:
Prep Work: Creating labels and preparing fresh lettuce.
The Grill: Keeping up with the heat to grill both the chicken patties and the buns.
The Finish: Assembling the burgers and carefully packaging them for safe travel.
🚗 The Drive: A Meaningful Mission
During the drive, we learned that this burger might be the only meal of the day for some of the people we were serving. It was a powerful reminder of how much a simple meal truly matters.
📦 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Distribution at McDougald Terrace
1501 Sima Avenue, Durham, NC
Upon arrival, the team quickly set up tables and organized the food for a smooth distribution.
The Meal: Each person received a hot chicken burger, a mini bottle of water, and a bag of Lay’s chips.
The Impact: We served a steady stream of grateful individuals, many of whom were collecting additional meals to take home to their families.
A Heartfelt Thank You!
This event was a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness leave a lasting impact. A massive thank you to the 15 RTPTCA volunteers who gave up their Sunday afternoon to make a meaningful difference in our Durham community. We couldn’t have done it without you!
